Nairobi’s race for the Women Representative seat is heating up, and a new opinion poll by Mizani Africa shows a surprising shift.
The poll asked Nairobi residents who they would vote for if elections were held today, and nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba came out on top—beating well-known politicians like the current Women Rep, Esther Passaris.
Gloria Orwoba leads with 21.6% support, making her the current favorite. She’s known for speaking out on social issues and is gaining attention as a fresh voice for Nairobi.
Esther Passaris, who currently holds the seat, came second with 17.5%. Although she has experience and name recognition, she’s now trailing behind Orwoba. Millicent Omanga, who previously ran for the same seat, is close behind with 16.1%.
Other candidates include Wangui B. Ng’ang’a with 11.6%, Senator Crystal Asige with 5.1%, Maverick Aoko with 4.7%, and Pauline Njoroge with 4.3%. All other candidates together received 1.4%.
One key detail from the poll is that 17.7% of voters are still undecided. This means the race is wide open, and anything could happen before the 2027 elections.
The poll shows that new leaders like Gloria Orwoba are starting to challenge the old guard. With two years to go, campaign strategies, public opinion, and political alliances will be crucial in deciding who wins.
If the current trend continues, Nairobi could be getting a new Women Representative in the next Parliament.
