Nairobi, Kenya — Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is said to be considering extending a senior leadership position to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino should he formally join the Wiper Democratic Movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to sources within the party, Kalonzo views Babu Owino as a youthful and influential figure capable of energizing younger voters. The potential offer is reportedly part of Wiper’s broader strategy to expand its national appeal and strengthen its bargaining power within the opposition.
Babu, currently a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has recently hinted at frustrations with the party’s leadership, fueling speculation about possible political realignment. In several public statements, the outspoken MP has called for greater recognition of youthful leaders in national politics.
Political analysts argue that Kalonzo’s move could significantly reshape the dynamics within the Azimio coalition. “Babu Owino commands a strong following among the youth. If he joins Wiper, it would not only bolster Kalonzo’s influence but also complicate ODM’s succession politics,” said governance expert Prof. Herman Manyora.
Neither Kalonzo nor Babu has publicly confirmed negotiations, but insiders suggest talks are at an advanced stage. The development, if confirmed, could signal a major realignment in opposition politics as leaders position themselves for the 2027 polls.
