A family in Kiambu County is in distress as they continue the search for their 29-year-old son, Biden Mwangi, who mysteriously vanished over a year ago.
His disappearance came shortly after his return to Kenya from Qatar, where he had been working.
According to his father, Mwangi came back home as the family was arranging for him to relocate to Canada. Upon his return, he expressed a desire to seek spiritual guidance and embarked on a 40-day period of prayer and fasting at a local prayer centre.
After completing the spiritual retreat, his father supported him by purchasing a TukTuk to help him earn a living while they awaited the final stages of his move to Canada. However, Mwangi insisted on returning to the prayer centre for further prayer, hoping for a breakthrough regarding his plans to move abroad.
He returned home after a week-long visit to the prayer centre, but the following Monday in March 2024, he disappeared without a trace. He left behind all his identification documents but took his phone, which was later used to withdraw KSh 22,500 from his M-Pesa account. The phone was briefly switched on near Thika, offering the only lead the family has received since his disappearance.
Despite relentless efforts by the family and friends, including visits to prayer centres and inquiries among acquaintances, Mwangi has not been seen or heard from in over a year.
The family continues to plead with the public and authorities for any information that could help locate their son. Their hope remains alive that someday, he will be found safe and reunited with them.
