A family in Kibera is mourning the sudden death of their matriarch, Zaituni Kavaya, who died following a tragic fall in Kilimani.
According to reports, Zaituni had left home early in the morning to go to work, where she was employed as domestic help. However, her day ended in tragedy when she sustained fatal injuries after falling in unclear circumstances at an apartment complex.
A video circulating online showed a man assisting Zaituni down a flight of stairs before leaving her to descend the remaining steps on her own. Moments later, the accident occurred, leaving her fatally injured. Shock and grief have engulfed her family, who described her as a hardworking woman dedicated to providing for her children and grandchildren.
Relatives and neighbours in Kibera gathered at her home to comfort the grieving family, as they struggled to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss. “She was our pillar and our strength. We don’t know how to move on without her,” a family member said.
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to Zaituni’s fall, as calls for justice and workplace safety continue to grow.
