Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has accused the Kenya Kwanza government of neglecting its obligation to pay former President Uhuru Kenyatta his retirement benefits.
Speaking at a public forum, Kioni noted that although Uhuru peacefully handed over power in 2022, he has not received the entitlements guaranteed by law.
He argued that the situation is not only unfair but also politically influenced, stressing that the former Head of State deserves respect for his service to the nation.
“It is unfortunate that up to now, Uhuru Kenyatta has not been given his retirement dues. He left office honorably and handed over smoothly, yet this government has denied him what is rightfully his,” Kioni remarked.
The Jubilee leader further promised that if their political camp forms government in 2027, they will ensure that all former Presidents, including Uhuru, are treated with dignity and fairness.
He added that the respect for state institutions relies on leaders upholding the law rather than personal or political preferences.
Kioni stressed that even if President William Ruto were to lose power in 2027, his retirement benefits must still be honored, regardless of public opinion about his tenure.
“Even if Ruto is judged harshly as President, we will still pay him. This is not about personal feelings but about protecting the dignity of the presidency,” Kioni explained.
He warned that failing to pay a former Head of State weakens democratic values and sets a dangerous precedent for future leadership transitions.
