According to reports from Citizen TV, county lawmakers from Western region have been warned against intimidating county executive officials.
The warning has come from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss, who has expressed concern over a growing pattern of abuse of power by some Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).
According to the EACC boss, some MCAs have been demanding that they be awarded all tenders for works happening in their respective wards.
They have also been pushing for job opportunities to be given to their relatives and political supporters, including those who do not meet the required qualifications.
This he said has put executive officials under unnecessary pressure and has interfered with proper service delivery.
The EACC has stated that public offices must be run transparently and fairly.
The boss has reminded the MCAs that procurement processes and employment opportunities must follow the law and be open to all qualified citizens.
He has also warned that any attempt to use threats, coercion or intimidation against public officials will attract investigations and possible legal action.
In his statement, the EACC boss has urged county leaders to respect the law and allow executive officials to do their work without interference.
He has said that corruption thrives where there is intimidation and secrecy.
The warning has come at a time when cases of conflict between MCAs and executive officials have been reported in several counties.
Other cases leading to impeachment motions against county Governors, with that of Jericho county being the lastest victim.
However, such conflicts slow down development projects and deny residents important services.
The EACC has promised to continue monitoring counties and to take action against those found abusing their positions.
The commission has called on citizens to report any cases of corruption, intimidation, or misuse of office.
