The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) held a crucial Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting on Monday, chaired by party leader Raila Odinga. The gathering brought together several MPs and senators to deliberate on the party’s next political moves.
Among the notable attendees was Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has recently been vocal about his loyalty to the party. His presence was seen as a reaffirmation of his commitment despite speculations of divisions within ODM ranks.
However, conspicuously absent was Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who also serves as ODM’s Secretary General. His no-show raised eyebrows among members and political observers. Sifuna has been at the centre of key ODM strategies, making his absence a talking point.
The meeting, held under the stewardship of Raila Odinga, was reportedly focused on consolidating party unity and preparing for the unfolding political landscape ahead of 2027.
Sources within ODM disclosed that Raila emphasized discipline and loyalty, urging leaders to avoid unnecessary wrangles that could weaken the party.
Babu Owino, who has previously clashed with Sifuna on party matters, was seen interacting freely with Raila and other leaders, signaling a potential shift in ODM’s internal dynamics.
Political analysts argue that Sifuna’s absence could either be strategic or due to other commitments, but it nonetheless feeds speculation about emerging fault lines.
Despite the drama, ODM officials downplayed the matter, insisting the party remains united under Raila’s leadership.
