UDA MP Eric Wamumbi on Sunday, September 21, responded strongly to allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding a supposed Ksh 10 million handout at Tripple Dreams Gardens Hotel in Karatina. In a social media post, MP Wamumbi described Gachagua’s claims as false, misleading, emphasizing that no such money had ever been distributed.
He stated that government is focused on investing in real development projects for the people of Mathira rather than fueling handouts or political schemes.
Wamumbi further criticized the former deputy president’s public statements, calling them reckless and potentially dangerous.
He noted that such alarmist claims not only threaten the reputation of the hotel but also put its employees at risk.
The MP highlighted that this was not the first instance of similar allegations, recalling a previous episode where Gachagua urged youths to target Sunciti Hotel in Sagana with baseless claims.
The legislator condemned this brand of politics, which he said thrives on incitement and disruption rather than constructive development. He added that coming from someone who previously caused local hospitality businesses to close for nearly five months, it is unsurprising that Gachagua shows little regard for survival of such enterprises.
Wamumbi insisted there was no meeting at Tripple Dreams Gardens Hotel and dismissed the narrative suggesting otherwise.
He urged political leaders to refrain from dragging hardworking businesses into partisan conflicts, emphasizing the importance of protecting livelihoods while pursuing political objectives.
The MP’s response reflects growing tensions in Mathira, where political claims and counterclaims continue to dominate public discourse.
By addressing the allegations head-on, Wamumbi aimed to defend local businesses, reassure residents that government efforts remain focused on tangible development rather than divisive political tactics.
