The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has stepped in following the death of 26-year-old Simon Warui, who died under unclear circumstances while in custody at Mombasa’s Central Police Station. LSK President Faith Odhiambo confirmed the society is actively pursuing justice.
Faith Odhiambo, through her official X account, stated that LSK is closely monitoring the case and has appointed an advocate to represent Warui’s family. The lawyer will ensure investigations are transparent and those responsible for Warui’s death are held accountable.
According to LSK, Warui disappeared mysteriously on a Sunday morning at around 10:00 am. His family later reported him missing at Embakasi Police Station in Nairobi, raising questions about how he ended up in Mombasa police custody.
Faith emphasized that the exact circumstances surrounding Warui’s detention and death remain unknown. She assured the family that LSK is working alongside civil society groups and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to uncover the full truth.
The LSK boss reiterated that the society will not relent until justice is served. She insisted that the case will be followed closely and updates will be provided regularly, ensuring Warui’s family remains informed throughout the investigation process.
Faith expressed gratitude to the leadership of LSK Mombasa and its members for supporting the family during this difficult time. She assured Kenyans that the matter is being pursued with urgency to prevent cover-ups or manipulation of facts.
The shocking death has sparked public outrage, with many demanding accountability from law enforcement agencies. Concerns over extrajudicial killings and human rights violations in police custody have once again come to the spotlight, intensifying calls for reforms in policing.
