Ryan Injendi, son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, has accused Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of influencing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries that denied him the party ticket.
Addressing supporters on Sunday, September 21, Ryan claimed the PCS’s office interfered with the nomination process in Malava. He argued that the aspirants had initially agreed to settle on a candidate through consensus, but the process was changed to a contested vote.
“We were together with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and the plan was to deliberate and agree on who would get the ticket. Instead, we were directed to hold a vote,” Ryan said.
He insisted that President William Ruto and other UDA leaders had stayed away from the primaries but questioned why Mudavadi chose to involve himself.
“To the office of the PCS, what was so special about Malava that you had to step in and fight a young man like me? Why didn’t you let the people of Malava make their own choice?” he asked.
Ryan also recalled the friendship between his late father and Mudavadi, saying Malulu Injendi often stood by the PCS during political challenges in Western Kenya. He wondered why Mudavadi would turn against his family.
Despite his grievances, Ryan conceded defeat and congratulated Kakamega County Minority Leader David Ndakwa, who secured the ticket.
“We have conceded, but we will not forget. I will step aside and allow Ndakwa to campaign, but I remain firmly behind the government and President Ruto,” he said.
Mudavadi, currently in New York for the 80th United Nations General Assembly, is yet to respond to the allegations. The Malava by-election is scheduled for November 2.
