Litein Boys High School has been closed indefinitely after students went on a rampage on Sunday night, torching sections of the institution.
The unrest erupted after the administration declined a request by students to watch the English Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester City. Learners claimed the screening was part of their routine weekend entertainment, but the refusal sparked protests that quickly turned violent.
Students allegedly overpowered security officers after switching off power within the compound. Dormitories and classrooms were set on fire, with property worth millions destroyed. Images shared online showed charred walls and smoke-filled buildings.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of unrest at the Kericho County school. In July, students rioted over poorly cooked food, damaging school property before police restored order. In 2023, the institution was also closed following riots that left biometric systems, vehicles, and windows vandalized.
Education officials and police have begun investigations into the latest strike. Authorities are expected to assess the damage and determine when the school can reopen.
The repeated chaos has raised concerns over student discipline and the ability of the school’s leadership to manage grievances without escalation.
