Tensions are rising in Kasipul Constituency ahead of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominations, with several aspirants accusing the party of creating an uneven playing field.
On Monday, September 22, candidates vying for the parliamentary ticket faulted ODM for what they described as unclear communication on the nomination process. They argued that the delays and lack of transparency suggested attempts by senior party officials to influence the outcome in favour of certain individuals.
The aspirants warned that any interference with the process would face strong resistance from the constituency’s electorate. They insisted that Kasipul residents were determined to defend their democratic space and would not tolerate manipulation of the nomination exercise.
Concerns raised included the lack of information on key logistical details such as the appointed returning officer and the tallying centre. According to the candidates, only one aspirant had allegedly received updates, fuelling suspicions of bias. They further argued that if ODM failed to uphold fairness at the constituency level, it risked alienating supporters and weakening its performance in the upcoming November 27 by-election.
