Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday received President William Ruto upon his arrival in New York, United States, where the Head of State is set to lead Kenya’s delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The high-level session, which will bring together world leaders, policymakers and diplomats, will focus on global peace, economic development, climate change and multilateral cooperation.
President Ruto’s presence at the event is seen as a key opportunity for Kenya to push for fairer global financial systems, climate justice for Africa, and deeper international partnerships.
Upon arrival, President Ruto was welcomed by Mudavadi, who had travelled ahead of him to make preparations for Kenya’s participation at the summit.
The Prime CS, who also serves as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, confirmed that Kenya’s delegation will actively engage in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly, aimed at attracting investment and strengthening diplomatic ties.
First Lady Rachel Ruto, who accompanied the President, is expected to attend events centred on health, education, and women empowerment during the visit.
The trip has sparked optimism among Kenyans, with many expressing hope that the engagements will result in meaningful agreements that benefit the country’s economy.
Analysts say this year’s UNGA is crucial for Kenya as it seeks to cement its reputation as a regional leader and global voice for Africa. Ruto’s speeches and meetings are expected to set the tone for Kenya’s foreign policy agenda in the coming year.
