Permanent Secretary Raymond Omollo on Monday, September 22, showcased the ongoing construction of the Kagume–Mununga–Kiamaina–Gathuthuma–Kianjagi Road in Kirinyaga County. This is a key milestone under the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The project, aimed at modernizing rural infrastructure, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, improve access to markets, and stimulate local enterprise across the region.
The road, once completed, will serve as a vital corridor for agricultural communities, enabling farmers to transport their produce more efficiently.
Tea, coffee, and dairy farmers, who form the backbone of Kirinyaga’s economy, are anticipated to benefit from reduced transport costs, faster delivery of goods, and expanded market linkages.
By opening up previously hard-to-reach areas, the project also promises to attract investment and encourage the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, further boosting local economic activity.
PS Omollo emphasized that the road construction is part of a broader government strategy to transform rural areas, ensuring that economic development is inclusive and sustainable.“By improving infrastructure in rural counties, we are creating opportunities for agribusiness, enhancing livelihoods, and contributing to national economic growth,” he said.
Local residents have expressed optimism about the project, noting that improved roads will ease travel, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and provide safer passage for commuters.
The initiative is also expected to improve access to essential services such as healthcare and education, ensuring that communities in Kirinyaga County can fully participate in socio-economic development.
As the project progresses, authorities have pledged continued monitoring and engagement with local stakeholders to ensure timely completion and maximum benefit to the communities it serves.
