Nairobi’s Charter Hall at City Hall was the place to be on Sunday, September 21, as the hunt for Kenya’s next superstar drew to a thrilling close.
The inaugural Next Superstar Kenya competition, presented by Amina Abdi and Eddy Butita and powered by StarTimes, began at 7:30 p.m., with attendees displaying their best apparel.
After weeks of rigorous eliminations, Jose took home the ultimate prize of KSh 1 million. His win capped a 14-week odyssey that began in May 2025, when thousands of aspirants auditioned across Kenya.
Over the course of the competition, 18 contestants were whittled down to six finalists who performed in a live grand finale broadcast on Rembo TV, Rembo Plus, and the StarTimes ON app.
Jose beat out finalists Brenda Morii (Nyamori Brendah), Albert Okumu, Andy Saharan, Jambia (Brian Koome), and Rennic.
Rennic was the first runner-up, receiving a brand new motorcycle, while Jambia received the second runner-up award, which was rare jewelry worth KSh 150,000.
Following his victory, an overjoyed Jose told TUKO.co.ke that tenacity had been the key to his success: “I’ve participated in numerous tournaments before but never made it to number one.
This time, I told myself to try again, and I am thankful to God for answering my prayers. This platform has given me exposure, and I hope it continues to help young people display their potential. Music is my life, and I will continue to do it for as long as I live.”
Jose also stated that he planned to utilize the prize money to expand his barbershop, which had recently been raided: “I thank God for this opportunity.
My barbershop was recently plundered, and I plan to utilize the proceeds to restore it.” Collins Okoth, Director of Strategy and Planning at the Kenya Film Commission and Chief Guest at the Finale, complimented the competition for empowering young people via the creative industries.
