A man from Ruiru, Kiambu County, has shared terrifying CCTV footage showing the moment he narrowly escaped a robbery in the early hours of the morning.
The man, identified as Jay, said he was leaving home for an early morning errand when something felt wrong.
Jay explained that while stepping outside, he noticed the street was unusually quiet and the darkness felt heavy.
He said his instincts told him to stay put, but he decided to continue walking, thinking he could manage the risk.
“I thought I could take the walk as a man, but I didn’t get even 100 meters before I realized danger was waiting,” he said.
The CCTV footage shows two thugs lying in wait. As Jay approached, they quickly confronted him, rifling through his pockets to steal valuables.
Another person waited nearby on a motorbike to help them escape. Within moments, the attackers fled, leaving Jay shaken but unharmed.
“This was a close call,” Jay admitted in a TikTok video where he shared the footage. “My instincts were warning me, and I should have listened.
The street was not like this at this time, and it felt too quiet.”
Many Kenyans responded to his video with similar experiences and advice. Some warned others about walking alone at night in Ruiru, while others shared personal stories of theft and attacks.
A TikTok user wrote, “Never take that route at night, even if you are in a hurry. It has been unsafe for a long time.” Another added, “Trust your gut feelings; they can save your life.”
The incident highlights the importance of personal safety and awareness, especially during odd hours.
Residents in Ruiru have been urged to stay cautious, avoid deserted streets at night, and report suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
Jay’s story also serves as a reminder that instinct is a powerful tool. Ignoring early warning signs can put people in dangerous situations.
He encouraged everyone to stay alert and avoid risky routes when visibility is low or areas feel unsafe.
