President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers across the country. Speaking at State House during the Walimu na Rais forum, the Head of State addressed over 10,000 teachers drawn from different regions, making bold promises aimed at strengthening the teaching profession.
Ruto acknowledged the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the nation’s future, noting that education remains at the heart of his government’s development agenda. He assured the educators that his administration would prioritize policies and programs designed to improve their working environment, enhance career progression, and address long-standing challenges that have affected the profession for years.
Among the issues raised by teachers were delayed promotions, inadequate staffing in schools, and limited access to professional development opportunities. In response, the President promised to ensure that promotion processes become more transparent and that deserving teachers receive timely recognition for their service.
He further pledged to work closely with the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education to bridge staffing gaps, particularly in rural and marginalized regions where shortages have severely affected learning.
The President also highlighted the need to strengthen continuous training programs for teachers, emphasizing that a strong education system depends on equipping educators with modern skills to match the demands of a rapidly changing world.
Teachers present at the forum expressed optimism following the President’s remarks, noting that they hoped his promises would translate into tangible reforms that would restore dignity to the profession.
