John Mahama, the former President of Ghana, has given a significant endorsement to President William Ruto’s affordable housing project. In a statement, the respected African statesman expressed his deep admiration for the ambitious initiative currently being rolled out across Kenya, signalling that the project is now attracting attention from across the continent.
He admitted he was especially interested in the financial strategy behind the large-scale development. He said, “I was curious about how Ruto is funding the project,” a question that has been a major topic of discussion among many Kenyans, particularly regarding the housing levy.
Mr Mahama confirmed that he had the opportunity to speak directly with President Ruto to understand the mechanics of the plan. He revealed that the Kenyan President shared some valuable insights with him, describing the information as “a few tips” on how to successfully implement such a programme.
The former President made it clear that his interest was not just academic and that he plans to use the knowledge gained from Kenya back in his own country. He stated his intention to “take back to Ghana” the tips he received, suggesting that Kenya’s model could soon be used as a blueprint for affordable housing in other African nations.
John Mahama’s praise serves as a major international vote of confidence in the Ruto administration’s flagship project. His desire to export the idea to Ghana suggests that, despite local debates, the Kenyan housing plan is being viewed by other leaders as an innovative solution to a widespread problem.
