The race to succeed the late Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi has taken a dramatic twist after his son, Ryan Injendi, accused allies of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of meddling in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations.
Addressing supporters in Lugusi, Kakamega County, Ryan alleged that individuals linked to Mudavadi’s office influenced the outcome in favour of David Ndakwa, who clinched the ticket with 8,756 votes against his 6,312.
While conceding defeat, Ryan expressed disappointment that Mudavadi would allegedly work against him despite the long-standing friendship between the PCS and his late father. “My father stood with Mudavadi when others walked away. It is painful to see him turn against me now,” he said.
Ryan, however, ruled out breaking ranks with the ruling coalition, pledging continued support for President William Ruto. He insisted the President and his close allies had no hand in the nomination exercise. Mudavadi, currently in New York for the UN General Assembly, has yet to respond to the claims. The Malava by-election, slated for November 27, is shaping up to be a high-stakes political contest with national attention.
