A secondary school has been ordered to close indefinitely after a violent student riot broke out during a football match on campus.
The incident, which began as a routine sporting contest, quickly spiraled into chaos when rival factions of students clashed over the outcome of the game.
Witnesses say the disagreement escalated after one side accused referees of bias. Tempers flared, leading to property damage, injuries, and a heavy police presence to restore calm. Desks, windows, and dormitory facilities were destroyed in the fracas, with school administrators describing the damage as “extensive.”
County education officials confirmed the closure, saying it was necessary to prevent further unrest and ensure student safety.
Parents have been urged to cooperate with authorities as investigations continue into what triggered the violence and who should be held responsible.
The indefinite shutdown has disrupted academic programs, sparking concern that syllabus coverage and exam preparation will be affected.
Education leaders have also criticized the culture of indiscipline in schools, warning that unresolved disputes over extracurricular activities can spiral into larger security threats if not properly managed.
Local leaders are now calling for counseling sessions and stronger mentorship in schools, stressing that sports should unite rather than divide. The institution will remain closed until a full security and disciplinary review is completed.
