A family in Mbeya, Tanzania, is mourning the death of their daughter, Shyrose Mahande, a 21-year-old law student at Mzumbe University.
Shyrose was kidnapped on Saturday, September 13, by unknown men. Her father, Dr. Mabula Mahande, said the abductors demanded money and later sent him a video showing his daughter being tortured. “When I saw her in so much pain, I released a certain amount,” he said.
A few days later, police informed him that a Good Samaritan had reported a burning store. After the fire was put out, Shyrose’s body was discovered inside and taken to the mortuary.
Her classmates described her as humble, polite, and hardworking. Community leaders condemned the killing, calling it a shocking act of cruelty that has left the region shaken.
The incident sparked outrage online, with many expressing sympathy for the family and frustration over the rise in kidnappings and slow justice for victims.
In a separate case, another family in Eldoret was left devastated when a Catholic University student was killed just days before her graduation.
Shyrose’s death has left her family, friends, and community in deep sorrow, mourning a young life cut short.
