The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja Kirocho, has ordered the immediate arrest of Mogadishu FC fans captured in a viral video mocking the Kenyan flag.
In the footage, a group of supporters is seen stomping and kicking the national flag during a football clash, sparking outrage among Kenyans. The act has been widely condemned as an insult to the country’s sovereignty and dignity.
IG Kanja directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly in apprehending the suspects. He emphasized that the incident will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
“The Kenyan flag must be respected at all times. Those involved must face the full force of the law,” Kanja stated, underscoring the seriousness of the matter.
According to the police boss, the DCI has been instructed to work with speed and efficiency to ensure the culprits are traced and prosecuted without delay.
He noted that desecration of the flag is a criminal offense under Kenyan law, carrying penalties meant to safeguard the nation’s symbols of unity and pride.
Kanja further assured the public that the matter will be handled with utmost firmness. He urged citizens to remain calm and allow security agencies to execute their mandate.
“This is about respect, not just for the flag, but for Kenya as a whole. The courts will do their work once arrests are made,” he affirmed.
The police chief concluded by reminding both citizens and foreigners that Kenya will not compromise on issues of national identity and respect.
