Lawyer and columnist Wahome Thuku recently shared a heartwarming story about his friend and colleague, Elisha Zebedee Ongoya, shedding light on a simple yet powerful gesture that speaks volumes about humility and inspiration.
Thuku described Ongoya as one of the most jovial and humorous people one can meet down to earth, full of stories, and always capable of surprising those around him.
Among the many stories Ongoya told, one stood out: his daily routine of offering lifts to school children on his way to work.
For Ongoya, it isn’t just about ensuring the children get to school on time. It’s about giving them a sense of pride and dignity, especially the boys.
“He likes to amplify their ego and demystify the car,” Thuku noted. By letting them ride in his big car, Ongoya allows the children to boast later with joy, saying, “ile gari ishawahi nibeba, pia mimi…”
According to Thuku, Ongoya believes such small experiences can inspire children, nurture their confidence, and fuel their dreams for the future.
Boys, in particular, often value these moments, carrying them as memories they proudly share for years.
This simple act reveals the softer side of a respected legal mind, showing that greatness isn’t always in grand gestures but in small, thoughtful deeds that touch lives in lasting ways.
