The Nandi senator, Aaron Cheruiyot, has sent a strong message to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, asking him to stop acting like he is still in charge.
This came after Uhuru spoke about the Linda Mama program, which was started during his time in office to help pregnant women get free medical care.
Speaking boldly, Senator Cheruiyot said Uhuru should retire with dignity and stop criticizing the current government.
He reminded the former president that many of the problems Kenya faces today started during his leadership. “Linda Mama helped some mothers, yes,” Cheruiyot said, “but what about the many others who were left out?”
Cheruiyot accused Uhuru of behaving like a village chief who refuses to let go of power.
He said that instead of giving advice quietly, Uhuru keeps attacking the government in public, as if his own time in office was perfect. “You had your chance,” the senator said. “Now let others lead.”
The senator also warned Uhuru not to use emotional stories to defend his past decisions.
He said leaders should be honest and accept their mistakes. “If you are told to pay tax, pay it,” Cheruiyot added, referring to recent debates about the Kenyatta family and taxes.
This message has caused a lot of discussion in Kenya. Some people support Cheruiyot’s words, while others believe Uhuru has the right to speak. But one thing is clear: the political heat is rising.
