Lukenya University student died during his birthday celebration, leaving unresolved questions for his family members.
His family’s representative detailed the events that occurred before and after his death, and begged investigators to quickly intervene. An autopsy study on his body confirmed the cause of his death amid his family’s demand for justice.
Ben Maxwell Ombui, an education student and the last child in his family, reportedly paid for lunch and swimming services before entering the facility.
According to family spokesperson Emmanuel Mwangi, the hotel owner did not alert authorities and drove the body to the hospital in his personal vehicle.
When medical personnel arrived, they confirmed that Maxwell had already died. “He came and paid for our services. To our astonishment, the hotel’s owner did not notify the police to come take up the body.
He took the pupil to this hospital in his personal car. “Upon arrival, he was informed that he had brought in a deceased person,” said Emmanuel Mwangi, the family representative.
The family has urged the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take prompt action. “What are the police chiefs and DCI doing to achieve justice for the student?
The hotel’s owner has not been arrested, and operations continue as usual,” he added. The family, who live in Bobasi Constituency, was upset by the hotel’s lack of communication, and the lack of lifeguards in the swimming pool.
“We honestly don’t know what happened. But why weren’t there lifeguards to save him? Maxwell’s sister, Vera Meshack, stated, “What we really need is justice for our brother.”
